Car Thief Tries Using Owner's License During Mahwah Traffic Stop: Report

18-year-old Victor M. Gonzalez allegedly stole the car in Connecticut, police said.

A Pennsylvania man tired showing a Mahwah police officer who pulled him over the driver’s license of the car’s owner as if it were his, a report by the Daily Voice stated.

Officer Tyler Boucher stopped the car Saturday afternoon on Route 287 for “an equipment violation,” Mahwah police said.

The driver, Victor M. Gonzalez, 18, of Steelton, Pa., handed the car owner’s driver’s license to the police officer, who noticed the photo on the license looked nothing like the driver, according to the report.

The police officer smelled marijuana and noticed the ignition had been popped, police said.

Police discovered the vehicle was reported stolen out of Ansonia, Conn.; Gonzalez was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, the report stated.
