David Letterman Writer Tweets Joke About Mahwah

Eric Stangel tweets slight jab at township Sunday

If you are a Twitter follower of Eric Stangel, one of the head writers and executive producers of The Late Show with David Letterman, you got a surprise (sort of) shout out Sunday night.

Taking a slight jab at the township, the writer tweeted “BREAKING: Arizona has pulled out of the MLB All-Star Game. It will now be played at the Mahwah, NJ rec field...”

The tweet was in response to the latest of several roster changes for Major League Baseball’s All Star Game, which is scheduled to be played Tuesday night.

Reuters reported last week that Yankees Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez pulled out of the game to rest from injuries. According to the Associated Press, 16 players have backed out of playing in the game, as of Monday morning.

This spurred talk of the game losing it’s luster and “star” appeal, which may have been what prompted Stangel’s joke that the game would be moved from Chase Field - which is in Phoenix, Arizona - to (perhaps?) in Mahwah.

If you did see the tweet, odds are you weren’t alone. Letterman’s writer was named one of Time Magazine’s Top 140 Twitter Feeds To Follow in March.
