Documentary About Ramapough Lenape Nation To Be Screened

'American Native' examines the group's efforts to gain recognition as a Native American tribe from the federal government.

MAHWAH, N.J. - “American Native,” a documentary about the Ramapough Lenape Nation will be screened at the Mahwah library April 16.

The film “provides an in-depth look at the complex past, volatile present, and endangered future of the Ramapough Lenape Nation,” the film’s website states.

The film chronicles the group’s efforts to gain recognition as a Native American tribe from the federal government and “the private interests that may have colluded behind the scenes to prevent them from doing so.”
