Effort To Recall Mayor Laforet Still 'On Pace,' Organizers Say

Grassroots effort to place a recall question on the General Election ballot needs about 4,200 signatures.

An effort to place a recall question about whether residents think William Laforet should continue as mayor is ”still on pace,” the effort’s organizer said.

Annette Freund, who is heading up the campaign, said the group is ”on target” to get the 4,200 signatures it needs to sign the petition.

“It’s been quite an education. We’re getting a cross section of all voters, all ages,” Freund said. “And the excitement of getting involved in the democratic process, that’s what’s so amazing to watch.”

The growing group of campaigners has cited five reasons for the recall, including claiming Laforet did not abide by municipal statutes regarding the opening an ice rink on town property and allegedly misusing the township’s Nixle account.

In addition to going door to door to collect signatures, campaigners have expanded where and when they attempt to collect signatures.
