"The Incomparable Ethel Waters” with vocalist Shirley Crabbe and piano accompanist

Celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month with the songs made famous by America’s first black superstar: Ethel Waters.  She was a woman of the theater, a celebrity and an influential singer whose distinctive jazz singing and interpretive abilities have been credited with influencing several of America’s greatest vocalists.  Jazz vocalist Shirley Crabbe studied Voice at the Manhattan School of Music and in the evening traveled downtown to sing jazz in the clubs.  She has performed at Birdland, the Paramount Theater and has opened for the jazz icon Abby Lincoln.  This program is free.  No tickets are necessary.  Seats are on a “first come” basis.
