Every Generation,,,,,Mine, Yours, and Theirs!!!!

a look at the past week

EVERY GENERATION….MINE, YOURS, and THEIRS!!!!!

This week our nation celebrated its 242nd birthday with many of the same festivities that marked this day in the time of my youth. Family gatherings, cookouts, hot dogs, hamburgers, carnivals and of course fireworks commemorated the day we took our liberty literally from the oppression of England.

Sadly, somewhat appropriate the day was marred by yet another act of protest by some idiot climbing the Statue of Liberty. The event resulted in the evacuation of Liberty Island and many that had planned the celebrate the day were denied that opportunity.

As with most holidays and birthdays this week was a lot of reminiscing on my part as the calendar reaches the unofficial midpoint of summer, and certainly my memories came to life once again. Thursday evening I watched two of my cousins Olivia and Tessa represent the town of Ramsey in a game of softball against Lakeland. The game was played here in my home town oddly enough on a field that was dedicated in memoriam of my cousin Steve Platt who left all of us way too soon. Tessa and Olivia were outstanding in Ramsey’s win and I watched the game with my cousin Ella my mind raced back to when I was a grade school boy---my brother and I played little league baseball right on the same very field wayyyyy back in the day.

The next day I witnessed a Little League All Star game between West Milford and Pequannock. This game featured Justin and Danny two cousins of mine whose fathers Steve Jr and Danny are sons of Steve Sr for which the field I spoke earlier about, was named. As I spoke with Steve, Danny, and their mom Nancy it was great to see the athletic skill the boys have inherited yet at the same time an uncanny emptiness the big Steve as we called him wasn’t here

Watching and reading the current events of these days is anything but entertaining. As I think back and remember I wonder how we have arrived where we are today and just as importantly how my flesh and blood is going to survive the way things are headed. The idiot that attempted to climb Miss Liberty was released, the Episcopal Church says it’s planning to have the word “male” removed from its scriptures, and somehow the LGBTQ front has managed to force school kids to view a video while preventing their parents from knowing about it or granting their approval. Politicians just short of inciting riots with rhetoric and wide open hate---it’s everywhere like never before!

When I read these things I keep hoping it’s all a big dream errr nightmare. Not so much for those of us my age but more so for the generations to come or as I call them “ next gens”. My prayer for them is that they will be saved from all harm
