I’m Baaaaaaaaaaack

After a considerable hiatus I have returned to the keyboard and social media posts to deliver my take on the sporting life, THE GAMES PEOPLE PLAY, for our entertainment. What a few months it has been! The Yankees have returned to excellence, Joe Girardi somehow got fired for making the playoffs, the Mets collapsed, Tiger returned , the New York Pro Football season ended in September, Melo Anthony got traded, the Islanders are going back to Long Island and my buddy Cole got his first varsity letter for an outstanding year of high school football

And, the beat goes on! What a great college football championship game we witnessed this week as the Alabama Crimson Tide stunned the Georgia Bulldogs in double overtime 26-23. It was Nick Saban’s stroke of genius benching his starting quarterback for a left-handed Hawaiian “Tim Tebow” that generated a 26 point second half outburst to extinguish and 13-0 Georgia lead at halftime. One of the most astonishing things to me was the number of freshmen athletes that performed sooo very well just a year out of high school gym. Matter of fact both schools ended the game at the command of freshmen quarterbacks. This does not bode well for the rest of the SEC, both of these teams have a good chance to repeat, Georgia has had the best recruitment season in college football. As far as the strategy of this game Georgia came out throwing to set up the run and did so extremely well. Alabama came out extremely conservative apparently satisfied with waiting for the Bulldogs to make a mistake. The second half was clearly role reversal in that partly due to bad field position Georgia got wayyyy to conservative and Alabama threw caution to the wind buoyed by the early success and energy from the backup qb throwing rockets all over the field. All in all it was a great game filled with amazing plays, drama, and yes of course mistakes. Roll Tide! And congrats to Nick Saban clearly the top coach and program in college football for the last 5 years

The NFL aka Not For Long if this keeps up. The dummies that run the NFL are in danger of killing the golden goose that has fattened their wallets for the last 40 years or so. With ill-advised replay reviews, boring pace of play, awful officiating and season long injuries to many star players the NFL Express is losing its steam with its following. Combined with the unrequested political posturing by its membership, people are turning to other ways to pass time on Sunday and it showed during the regular season. Fans in attendance chugging on overpriced beers and those at home watching on high deft televisions can no longer be sure if what they saw really happened with rulings like the catch vs not a catch, forward progress was stopped and other blatant distortions. Seems to me like one has to wait and be sure before celebrating a touchdown and the spontaneity is lost. By the way we like New England Pittsburgh, Atlanta and New Orleans in this week’s playoff matches.

Hurry up Spring Although February is one of my favorite months for obvious reasons spring can’t get here soon enough. One of the signs that encourage me is that the PGA tours began its 2018 season with its Hawaii Swing which tells me Pebble Beach and the Masters, ahhhh yes the Masters with Tiger! Can’t be too far away.

Speaking of spring has anybody seen or heard of the NY Mets? Me either. One has to wonder about an organization that has done nothing to improve itself for a couple of years now. Last year the Mets were awful due to a lack of talent and injuries---the entire starting rotation was hurt as well as Cespedes for long periods of the season. Somehow the Mets let the Yankees steal Stanton from the Miami Marlins right under their nose. The Mets have holes in their lineup everywhere only shortstop and left field are settled as of this writing. Exactly what is GM Sandy Alderson doing anyway? Occasionally we hear the Mets are interested in someone, usually wayyy over the hill but underpriced, and then we don’t hear any more about it. Like Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid we find Mets GM Sandy Alderson to be wayyyy over rated and heads up Sandy we are watching you!!!!
