Library Display Highlights Ramapough History
Former Wolf Clan Chief says he wants to connect Ramapoughs with the rest of the Mahwah community
If you pass by too quickly, you might miss it. But, if you go in though the back entrance of the , glance at the glass display case right outside the Winter Room.
Wallace Dennison, a past Wolf Clan Chief of the Ramapough Lenape Indian tribe in Mahwah has put together a display highlighting the tribe’s history. “I have done several similar displays in area libraries before, but this is the first one in Mahwah, and I am happy that I can help make this connection between the Ramapoughs and the Mahwah community,” Dennison said.
An assortment of letters, photos, books, DVDs, jewelry, head pieces, newspaper clippings, essays and other artifacts, Dennison says he compiled the collection after years of research and discussions with elders. Dennison founded the Ramapough Family Genealogical and Historical Society to continue work on researching and sharing tribe history.

“This library display is only a little bit of the collection I have built up, and I am happy to share these items and more with people who are interested in learning about our history.” Dennison has included his email address and phone number at the bottom of the display for students, teachers and others nearby who are interested in learning more about the Ramapoughs. "I will help anyone by making free copies of the materials they are interested in, or things like that."
The display will remain in the library’s case at least through the end of the month, he said. “I hope people stop to see it on their way in or out of the library.”
