The machine, which was given to Les by Bing Crosby, was modified by Les to enable him to achieve the “sound on sound” (multi-tracking) effect that he developed. Later, building on this concept, he built the first eight-track recorder, which is also on display.

Bucky Pizzarelli, Ed Laub and Lou Palllo visited to view the machine and to begin planning for Mahwah Museum’s Les Paul’s 100th Birthday Celebration in June. Lou Pallo played with Les as a member of the Les Paul Trio, and continues the tradition today, with Les Paul’s Trio. He recently released the DVD “Thank You Les” in honor of his long-time friend. Bucky Pizzarelli began playing with Les after meeting him in a Rt. 17 club in the 1960s. They became close friends and often played together professionally. Jazz guitarist Ed Laub, of Wycoff, has been working and playing with his friend and mentor, Bucky, for the past 12 years. They have recently released the CD “Three for All- The Bucky Pizzarelli Trio”, with John Pizzarelli. Ed has also just released a solo CD entitled “Soft Guitar“. They have all agreed to perform at the June celebration; more details will be announced shortly.
