Mahwah Girl Suffers Brain Injury, Been Unconscious Since May 17

MAHWAH, N.J. — Sara Goffredo is a 15-year-old who dreams of acting on Broadway.
Goffredo was out shopping with her mom May 17 when she had trouble breathing and went into cardiac arrest on the way to the ambulance. She suffered loss of oxygen to the brain and has been unconscious ever since, said Eddie Miller, a friend of the family.
Goffredo was transferred to Children's Specialized Hospital in New Brunswick and has shown "positive signs" while there.

Eddie Miller, a friend of the Goffredo family, started a GoFundMe page to raise money to help the Goffredo family. Goffredo's father Bill has acute care medical coverage, but it will eventually run out.
Miller said that what happened to Goffredo has left her family "shocked and decimated."

"They are struggling to cope with Sara's injury and unknown future," Miller said.
More than $37,000 has been donated to help Goffredo receive the treatment she needs.
"While they keep the faith and remain hopeful that she will recover, the pain of not having their daughter and brother home is very much to bear," Miller said.
