Mahwah Municipal Budget Brings With It A $19 Increase
Tax rate to increase 1% year over year.

MAHWAH, N.J. - The average homeowner's municipal tax bill is slated to increase $19 this year.
The Township Council introduced a $35.7 million budget at a meeting Thursday.
Mayor William Laforet presented the Council a budget with a 1.8 percent tax increase earlier this year, which officials whittled down to 1 percent.

The proposed 2016 tax rate is $.386, a 1 percent increase over last year's, said Council President John Roth.
"I am extremely proud of the work the Council has done in refining this budget," Roth said.

Officials cut spending by $200,000, but also found a way to include purchasing three new police department vehicles, hiring another Department of Public Works employee, purchasing another ambulance for the ambulance corps, and a new pumper for the fire department.
A public hearing and final vote on the budget will be held April 28.
