Mahwah One Of The Worst Towns For Heroin Overdoses: Prosecutor
The township was tied for the 8th most overdoses with 10, or almost 4 for every 10,000 people.

MAHWAH, N.J. — The township ranked eighth worst in Bergen County regarding the number of heroin and opioid overdoses in 2016, a report by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office shows.
Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal released the comprehensive report Thursday. It outlines where the county's 308 reported overdoses and fatalities, 87, were and how many times Narcan was used to counteract the effects of the overdoses.
Four people died of overdoses in Mahwah and six lives were saved using Narcan.

The vast majority of overdoses and use of Narcan came from the southern half of the county, the half closest to Paterson and Newark.
The prosecutor's office used social media to share when someone overdosed or their life was saved using Narcan during its #StopTheODs campaign, which is continuing this year.

2016 Report on Heroin Epidemic by Daniel Hubbard on Scribd
“The goal of this report, like our social media campaign, #StopTheODs, is to
destigmatize the heroin and opioid epidemic by showing that it affects every pocket of
the County," Grewal said in a news release. “By doing so, we hope to encourage parents,
children, educators and others to use this information to do their part to help prevent the
next overdose."
