Mahwah Opens 2 Cooling Centers Amid NJ Heat Wave
The senior center and public library will serve as reprieves from this week's excessive heat, when it could feel as hot as 110 degrees.
MAHWAH, NJ — Mahwah will open two cooling centers starting Wednesday afternoon amid excessive heat that could top 105 degrees in some parts of the state.
Mahwah police announced that the senior center and public library would also operate as cooling centers from Wednesday through Friday.
This comes as the National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for northeast New Jersey, as temperatures are expected to feel "in excess" of 100 degrees. An excessive heat warning has already been issued for Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Additional heat warnings could be in place on Friday as well, NWS officials said.

Forecasters are predicting "dangerously hot conditions," with heat index values around 105 on Wednesday and 110 on Thursday. Maximum temperatures will occur between noon and 8 p.m. each afternoon.
