Mahwah Resident Now Protecting Neighbors As Newest Police Officer

Officer Liam Kantanas is also a township firefighter. He is the 160th officer to join the department.

MAHWAH, NJ — The police department's newest officer is a lifelong township resident.

Officer Liam Kantanas graduated from the Bergen County Police Academy Wednesday night. He is a lifelong Mahwah resident and Ramapo College graduate.

Kantanas previously worked for the department as a dispatcher and is a township firefighter.

Kantanas is the 160th officer to work for the department.

Mahwah Police Chief James Batelli congratulated Kantanas on his accomplishment.

"He will be a great asset to the agency, reflecting the new generation of officers who are becoming police officers with innovative ideas and concepts to further the law enforcement mission," Batelli said.
