Mahwah Supercuts One of Area’s Fastest Growing

After six months in business, the chain salon says it is fulfilling a need in the community

There are six Supercuts locations within a 10-mile radius of Mahwah. But, according to managers at the salon on Franklin Turnpike, its first six months in business have set it up to be one of the busiest Supercuts in the region.

According to Lisa DelVescovo, the district leader for 15 Supercuts locations throughout northern New Jersey, the Mahwah location has been her busiest.

“The response [from the community] has been great,” she said. “Business has been steadily growing, and compared with other Supercuts, the ramp up here has been quicker.”

One of the reasons for the good response, she said, is that the salon “filled a need and a demand here for the price point we offer. There are a lot of high-end salons in the area, but we are known for being affordable.”

And, the nearby Supercuts locations actually help business, DelVescovo said. The Supercuts in Ramsey has been open for over 15 years, and three months ago the chain opened its newest local location in Wyckoff.

“What we offer is consistency,” she said. It’s like going to McDonald’s or Starbucks. No matter which one you go to, you know you will get the same thing. Supercuts works the same way.”

Plus, the nearby locations pull from different communities. Since Mahwah, Ramsey and Wyckoff all have different bordering towns, people from different places are going to each location. For example, the Mahwah location – which is in the Gateway Shopping Center right on the border of Rockland County – gets a lot of its customers from New York, she said.

Plus, the shop has been offering sales, like nighttime haircuts after 7 p.m. for $12.

With all of that working in its favor, the manager said she thinks Supercuts is settling in nicely to a permanent home.

“This location is great. We have already met a lot of people in the community, and we are looking forward to meeting more in the future,” DelVescovo said.
