BREAKING: The woman sustained a head injury and was taken to the hospital, police said.

MAHWAH, N.J. — A 67-year-old Mahwah woman suffered a head injury after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing Franklin Turnpike Sunday night, police said.
Police responded to the Miller Road-Franklin Turnpike intersection just after 6 p.m. on a reported motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian, said Chief James Batelli.
Batelli said that Richard DeSiilva, 41, was driving a 2008 Jeep Wrangler and stopped at a red light at the intersection, the chief said.

DeSilva, 42, turned left when the light turned green and hit the woman as she crossed Franklin Turnpike, Batelli said. Police said the woman was in or near a crosswalk when she was struck.
Police think she had just gotten off a bus and was heading to her vehicle that was parked in a nearby commuter parking lot, Batelli said.
