Man Allegedly Sends Threats To Mahwah Police Headquarters
Oakland man was charged with harassment, police say

An Oakland man has been charged with harassment after allegedly sending a threatening letter to , Chief James Batelli said Friday.
Brian Schinski, 22, whose last known address was in Oakland, allegedly sent a “rambling, handwritten three-page letter,” to Mahwah Officer Sean Hayes, Batelli said. The letter contained "derogatory" comments about Hayes and “threats of physical harm against a specific [member of his] family," he said.
According to Batelli, in June 2011, Schinski had “law enforcement contact,” with Hayes, who has been on the Mahwah Police force for two years. Police said they do not know how Schinski might know the family member.

The note, which had an Oakland, California return address, was allegedly signed by Schinski and mailed to police headquarters in mid-August, police said.
Police served a complaint to Schinski’s attorney this week after a Mahwah Police investigation determined that Schinski was not in the state, Batelli said.
