Man Arrested After He Flees Mahwah Accident Scene

MAHWAH, NJ — Police arrested a man who fled the scene of an accident Monday on Interstate 287.

Matthew Thomas, 19, of Mount Airy, North Carolina, was arrested after Franklin Lakes police pursued him after he left the scene shortly after 9 a.m., said Capt. John Bakelaar.

Police found Thomas after Mahwah police reported he left the accident scene, the captain said.

Thomas was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, fictitious license plates, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, making an unsafe lane change and driving without liability insurance, Bakelaar said.
