Man Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Girl, 11, In Mahwah: Prosecutor

MAHWAH, N.J. —A Passaic County man was charged with aggravated sexual assault following a multi-agency investigation of several sexual assaults in the township, said Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal.
The Hawthorne Police Department received a report Tuesday of an 11-yea-old girl being sexually assaulted multiple times in Mahwah, Grewal said.
As a result of a joint investigation by the Mahwah Police Department and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, Kenneth J. Mowerson III, 55, of Hawthorne, was charged Wednesday with aggravated sexual assault, a first-degree offense, sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree offenses and witness tampering, a third-degree offense.

Authorities could not locate Mowerson at first, but an off-duty Saddle River police officer saw him in Allendale Thursday, Grewal said. He was arrested shortly after being found and remanded to the Bergen County Jail, authorities said.
Superior Court Judge Frances A. McGrogan set no bail. Mowerson must surrender his passport, have no contact with the alleged victim, and enroll in the Sheriff’s Bail Enrichment Program as conditions of his bail.
