Bergen Man Allegedly Sexually Abused Girl For 3 Years: Prosecutor
Peter Mitchell, 43, was arrested after a 16-year-old girl reported to police she'd been sexually abused.

A New Milford man was charged with sexual assault after authorities learned he’d allegedly sexually abused a 16-year-old girl multiple times during the past three years, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.
Peter Mitchell, 43, was charged with sexual assault, two counts of aggravated criminal sexual contact, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
A 16-year-old girl told the New Milford Police Department that she’d been sexuallly abused multiple times by a male acquaintance, Molinelli said.

Authorities from the New Milford and River Edge police departments, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, and the state Division of Child Protection and Permanency investigated the girl’s claims, Molinelli said. Some of the abuse allegedly occurred in River Edge.
Mitchell was arrested and charged after authorities learned he allegedly sexually assaulted and sexually contacted the girl on several occasions in the past, authorities said.

Mitchell was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bail; he is to have no contact with the alleged victim and must surrender his passport upon being released on bail.
