Portable system being purchased at no expense to taxpayers.

The Mahwah Police Department will soon be able to access video surveillance footage more quickly.

The department is purchasing a portable video retrieval system that can hook up to several different types of surveillance systems, said Chief James Batelli.

“We’re using surveillance videos in so many investigations now,” Batelli said. “A lot of times we’re going to these places where a crime has been reported or a suspicious person seen.”

The $2,000 system will be paid for using funds from the police department’s escrow account with no expense to the taxpayers.
