Bodybuilder Shot Parents On Christmas, Captured In Bergen County: Police

MAHWAH, NJ — A man accused of shooting his parents on Christmas Day was arrested in Mahwah, and is currently held in Bergen County Jail under fugitive from justice charges, according to jail records.

Mahwah police confirmed with Patch that they assisted New York State Police in the arrest of Dino Tomassetti, a New York City-based personal trainer and body builder, is suspected to have shot his parents in their Long Island, New York mansion just after 10 a.m. on Saturday, according to Daily Voice and New York Post reports.

According to local police, they received information from the New York State Police that Tomassetti was being pursued as a result of a felony warrant for an apparent attempted murder and shooting out of Nassua County.

Several New York law enforcement agencies were actively pursuing Tomassetti as he entered into Mahwah.

According to police, Tomassetti fled south bound on Route 17 into Mahwah. The suspect vehicle came to a stop in the area of Rt. 17 south and Rt. 202 in the township, when law enforcement personnel from the New York State Police, the Nassua County Police Department, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Department, the Ramapo Police Department and the Mahwah Police Department were able to "tactically and successfully remove Mr. Tomassetti from his 2017 White Escalade; without incident."

Tomassetti was "secured and transported back to Mahwah Police Headquarters," before being taken to the Bergen County Jail under the felony complaint warrant out of the First District Court of the County of Nassau.

Reports indicate that Tomassetti fled his parent's Long Island home after the alleged shooting, and jail records confirm that he was apprehended in Mahwah. He was booked into Bergen County Jail on Christmas, and no bond has been set.
