The New York Giants wide receiver was named the NFL” s National Conference Offensive player of the week for his performance last Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. Odell caught 8 passes for 212 yards and 2 touchdowns including the game winning 66-yard catch and run touchdown at Met Life.

Early this week Beckham Jr. has been attacked on all media fronts for his excessive TD celebration and sideline antics that to some are cause for concern about his mental health. The 23-year-old from Louisiana State has captured the hearts of NFL and Giants fans with amazing one hand catches and blinding speed.

HERE IS WHAT I THINK

Football fans in general and NY Giants fans in particular should lay off Beckham and focus on the asset he is to the Giants. Yes, he is immature, yes I wish he didn’t prolong his celebrations and Yes he is the one unstoppable offensive force the Giants have had in the last 40 years. Not since Homer Jones have the Giants had such a rare combination of talent in one wide receiver. Beckham and Lawrence Taylor are the only two Giants in recent memory that cause other teams to alter their game plans to account for the Giants talent. To all of those that call sports radio demanding that Beckham be suspended, traded etc I have one question for you. WHERE WERE YOU WHEN LT WAS CAUSING HAVOC ON AND OFF THE FIELD FOR THE GIANTS? My view from here is that the same people that chanted LT LT! on the way to 2 Super Bowls are the same “fans” that somehow overlooked the numerous escapades of Taylor falling asleep in team meetings, playing golf, and his many traffic and drug indiscretions.

While Odell Beckham has a ways to go to reach the all-time greatness of LT it seems to me that a lot of folks and experts in the media have either forgotten or chose to forget the hypocrisy of their past
