One Woman Show Hitting Mahwah Stage
Beauty Shop Stories Tuesday night at the Berrie Center for $15

This Tuesday, Mahwah will learn the story of Faye Lane. The actress will hit the Berrie Center stage to tell the “stories of her life.” Her one-woman show, "Faye Lane’s Beauty Shop Stories" focuses on the stories that made her the person she is today, she said.
Her life stories are diverse – she grew up in Texas, at her mother’s beauty shop. “A lot of the show is about growing up in that beauty shop culture, about being a fat little girl who wanted to be a beauty queen,” Lane said. “Then, about three-quarters of the way through the show, I sell everything I own and move to London on a one-way ticket.”
Lane said her trip from Texas to London, and back, led her to a conclusion she didn’t expect. “I left looking for a fairytale, but I ended up getting an adventure story,” Lane explained. “I thought it would be a ‘boy meets girls, boy saves girl,’ traditional type story. But, it ended up being ‘girl meets herself, and realizes she can save herself,’ type story.”

Lane said the show she will perform at Tuesday is one that “resonates with most people. It’s about finding yourself. Everything I’ve done led me back to the little girl at the beauty shop. It took me a long time to realize that she’s the best part of me. And, I think that that’s something a lot of people experience.”
Though she is a trained actress, Lane said the performance is storytelling, not acting. “This type of entertainment is very exciting, because you can share with the audience something that is very real,” she said. Lane has performed the show in NYC, across the US and abroad, and on an international cruise. The show has won the 2011 MAC Award, the 2011 Bistro Award for Musical Comedy in NY and LA, and Moth Awards.
