Letter: State Legislators Endorse Roth, Sbarra, Wysocki, And Ervin

Officials 'wholeheartedly believe that John Roth, Steve Sbarra, Jim Wysocki, and George Ervin are Mahwah's best choice.'

MAHWAH, N.J. — To our Neighbors in Mahwah:

Mahwah is an incredible community and a great place to live. As your representatives in the State Legislature we feel compelled to lend our support to the candidates that we believe will ensure this never changes.

No one is better qualified than John Roth to serve as Mayor of Mahwah. He is the current Council President and has been a Councilman for the past 12 years. John is personally involved with the management of Mahwah at every level — from prudent budgeting to senior programs to Boy Scout activities. John leads by example as a public servant and believes in giving back to the community through personal service.

John is a highly reliable public official, always responsive, accurate, and measured in his response to issues. These are invaluable traits when considering who should lead a community.

John is also fiscally responsible; that is, he will not allow unnecessary spending. He has a 12-year track record of cost cutting but has ensured the services Mahwah residents enjoy have not been compromised.

Steve Sbarra is currently the council vice president and only incumbent running for re-election. He has been integral in the Council’s ability to reduce the mayor’s proposed tax increases by 20 percent over the last four years. This year Mahwah will lose two veteran Councilmembers, Lisa DiGulio who is retiring after 28 years of service and Council President John Roth who is running for mayor. These changes on the council will make Steve’s experience even more vital to Mahwah’s future.

Jim Wysocki is a lifelong resident of Mahwah who served his community as a Mahwah police officer for 29 years before retiring and has also been an active member of the Mahwah Fire Department for 37 years.
Additionally, Jim has coached youth sports, is an avid supporter of the Mahwah Museum, and a volunteer arson investigator with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

George Ervin is a 25-year resident Mahwah and is self-employed as a local contractor. Through his years in business, George has built a wealth of experience keeping costs down, making the most of every dollar and delivering projects on time without going over budget. This is exactly the type of fiscal know how and responsibility Mahwah needs to keep taxes down. Additionally, George has served on the Planning Board and is currently a member of our Board of Adjustments and Recreation Committee.

In Trenton we have taken every opportunity to vote against tax increases, most recently when all three of us voted against the gas tax increase that took effect just this week. We need partners at the local level and wholeheartedly believe that John Roth, Steve Sbarra, Jim Wysocki, and George Ervin are Mahwah’s best choice to help keep taxes down and quality of life high.

The District 39 Legislative Team strongly endorses and urges all Mahwah Voters to vote John Roth for Mayor along with Steve Sbarra, Jim Wysocki and George Ervin for Council on Nov. 8th.

Senator Gerald Cardinale (R), 39th Legislative District

Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi (R), 39th Legislative District
