Paterson Man Charged With Stealing Tires From Mahwah Store
Jheudi Cardenes-Cepeda, 30, was arrested, but another man who was at the scene got away, police said.

MAHWAH, NJ — One man was arrested and another eluded police after officers responded to a township business Thursday night.
Sgt. Michael Blondin and Officer Christopher Monico were dispatched to the Mavis Discount Tire store at 67 Franklin Turnpike at about 10:30 p.m. on a report of two suspicious men sitting in a box truck, said Mahwah Police Chief James Batelli.
Blondin blocked in the truck in and the two officers saw a man run away and climb over a fence, the chief said.

Monico heard footsteps coming from behind him and saw someone else running toward the nearby Ford dealership. Monico identified himself as a police officer and told the man who stop running; the man put his hands in the air and stopped running, Batelli said.
The Mahwah Police K-9 Unit was dispatched to search the area for the other man, but did not find him. Jheudi refused to give police the man's identity, Batelli said.

Police found a hacksaw and several used tires that were taken from the back of the Mavis lot inside the box truck.
Cardenes-Cepeda was charged with burglary, resisting arrest, theft and possession of burglary tools, police said.
Police are trying to identify the man who jumped the fence.
Thefts had been reported at the store previously, Batelli said.
