A picture is worth a thousand words...
If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck
One reason I have always, outright detested politics is because of the dishonesty that spews out of the mouths of elected officials. As part of this though, when I hear my fellow Americans defend the lies and deceptive behavior of their preferred representatives, I get dumbstruck. I often question why people are willing to defend a liar, a deceiver, no matter their political affiliation.
I believe we need to take a timeout from partisanship and begin to hold politicians accountable for lying. Trump, for example, has been proven to be a liar, yet some still defend him. Hillary Clinton has also been proven a liar, yet some still defend her. There has been zero evidence of Russian involvement in the 2016 elections...none...not a single drop...yet, most Americans believe Russia played a role. From my standpoint, the government lacks any form of credibility with which I'm going to 'take their word for it.'
I was planning to write a lot more, including examples of the suspicious behavior I have personally observed...until I saw the picture I included with this post. It stands on its own to prove where our problems start and end. It shows our Mayor, standing with a Teaneck Councilman and resident of that town, at Mahwah's Council meeting last night. Even after taking a figurative beating during the meeting, it is as if the Mayor doesn't realize or simply doesn't care about how this looks.

Mr. Mayor, if you read this, please consider something. Fortunately for you, 2016 was a Presidential election year. 75% of Mahwah's registered voters turned out and voted. You won the election by 116 votes. Let's do some quick math...52% of those who voted in 2016 chose either Wong or Roth. That would mean that despite winning, the majority of Mahwah's residents do not favor you to lead the town. Therefore, please consider the following, not as a suggestion but rather as direction from the majority of Mahwah's residents (and as a note to my fellow residents, if you feel I am off base, do let me know.)-
- Please refrain from endorsing any candidate for Town Council. It is beyond unethical under a Faulkner form of government. In addition, remove the existing endorsements from your Facebook Wall or any other channels where you might have promoted any candidate.
- If the AG or Bergen County Prosecutor prevent our local government from enacting or enforcing ordinances, then you need to either get Brian, our lawyer, or outside counsel to immediately fight these decisions at the state and/or federal level. The AG and Prosecutor are not parents telling us we can't eat ice cream before dinner. If we disagree with their decisions, we have the right to fight them on it. the BG Prosecutor must be confronted with his ridiculous decision, where he used optics instead of law as his guide. And if Brian can't handle it, replace him too. You are a veteran businessman. There is no way your acumen and successes for nearly 40 years came as the result of being soft on people.
- Show us you're a leader, not a cheerleader. I cannot stand to think about even one more image of cider donuts and twirly whirly gumdrops. It is not the time for ribbon cuttings and photo ops.
Please remember...you work for us. We are giving you deadlines and we want them met. If they are not, we are prepared to take the necessary steps to find someone who will ensure the interests of the town are always paramount above anything else.
