Planning Board To Review Rules Prohibiting Unregulated Pipelines In Mahwah
Changes being discussed in response to part of the Pilgrim Pipeline that's slated to run through the township.

The Planning Board will review proposed changes Monday that would prohibit part of the Pilgrim Pipeline from running through Mahwah.
The new rules would add a section to the Township Code banning “unregulated pipelines” in any zoning district in the township. The Town Council introduced the proposed changes recently.
The proposed 178-mile pipeline project would consist of two separate, parallel underground lines running between supply and distribution terminals in Albany, New York and Linden, New Jersey.

The pipeline would carry 400,000 barrels of petroleum products, including Bakken crude oil, gasoline, diesel, home heating oil, and jet fuel from the harbor north. Crude oil would be delivered south to New Jersey.
Mahwah is one of 28 municipalities along the pipeline’s Bergen County route that have opposed its construction.
