Naked Man Using Sex Toy While Walking Along 287 Arrested For Lewdness

MAHWAH, NJ — A naked man was arrested after police saw him walking and using a sex toy along Interstate 287 Monday.

Police responded to a report that a man only wearing a baseball cap and no clothes was walking along the highway near mile maker 64, said Police Chief James Batelli.

Officers Kevin McCombs and Timothy Letavish found Stephen Kurkowiak, 39, of Amsterdam, New York, near the right shoulder in plain view of traffic, Batelli said.

The officers saw Kurkowiak was using a sex toy and had a digital camera on him, stating that he like to "get naked" and that he intended to film himself using the sex toy, but realized he was visible to traffic on the highway, the chief said.

Kurkowiak was at Campgaw Mountain Reservation before he walked on the highway, Batelli said.

Police allowed Kurkowiak to get his clothes, which were nearby, and was arrested; he was charged with lewdness and released pending a court appearance, the chief said.
