Popular Bergen Seafood Restaurant Hit With Data Breach

Customers who dined at the restaurant during the last 2 years may be affected.

Secure credit card information from customers who dined at the Oceanaire Seafood Room may have been compromised, the restaurant’s parent company said Wednesday.

Patrons who dined at the popular Hackensack restaurant from May 10, 2014 and March 14, 2015 and from May 5 through Nov. 18, 2015 may have been affected, Landry’s said.

An investigation revealed that hackers installed a program on card processing machines at certain restaurants, spas, entertainment destinations, and other properties Landry’s owns and manages.

The program was designed to search for data, including customers’ names, card numbers, expiration dates and verification codes, from the magnetic strip of payment cards that had been swiped as the data was being routed through affected systems.

Enhanced security measures, including end-to-end encryption, have been implemented to prevent a similar issue from occurring in the future, the company said in a statement on its website.
