MAHWAH, NJ – A police chase on Sunday night led to the arrest of an attempted murder suspect on a Mahwah highway, officials said.

Officials in the Edison Police Department said that Reese Wetzel, 23, from Ellicott City, Md., was wanted for stabbing his twin sister multiple times after an argument. According to reports, he fled in his sister's white Subaru Outback.

Edison, N.J. public safety officials received a Sirius XM alert on Sunday night regarding the vehicle being in the area of Route 1, police said. Officer Phil Smith looked around, spotted the vehicle, and got permission from his lieutenant to pursue it, with other local and state police joining in, police said.

Wetzel stopped near mile marker 64.9 on I-287 North in Mahwah, a route that eventually leads to the New York State Thruway. He was taken into custody and faces charges including eluding with substantial risk of physical injury and fugitive from justice.

Edison Police Chief Tom Bryan expressed gratitude to Officer Phil Smith, Edison police officers who assisted, and "police agencies along the way from Edison to Mahwah, for their efforts in the pursuit and apprehension of Wetzel," he said.
