Ramapo River Near Mahwah Clears Flood Stage, Warning Issued

A flood warning is in effect for the Ramapo River near Mahwah until 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

MAHWAH, NJ — The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Ramapo River near Mahwah.

That warning has been active since Wednesday morning, and the NWS reports that the river is at nearly nine feet, past the flood stage of eight feet. The warning is set to expire at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

Minor flooding occurred this morning, and more was in the forecast, according to the NWS.

This comes after a nor'easter dumped nearly six inches of rain in Bergen County, and caused flooding on at least one major roadway in the region. Latest rain totals showed that Mahwah received nearly three and a half inches of rain. Read more: Updated Bergen County Nor'easter Rainfall Totals

But there is relief on the horizon.

The NWS reports that "the river is expected to fall below flood stage late this evening and continue falling to 5.4 feet early Saturday morning."
