Sharks Take Bite Out Of Flirts

The Mahwah Sharks capture the Adult Rec Soccer League Championship with a 3-0 victory over the Mahwah Flirts

For most of us soccer is the first organized sport we’re introduced to, and one that requires a great deal of passion and skill to master. In Mahwah, the township offers as part of their recreational summer program an opportunity for residents to play the sport that they fell in love with as children.

Three years ago, Nicola Giancas started the Mahwah Adult Recreation Soccer League for all adults ages 18 and up. Since its inception the league has steadily grown, and next year Giancas anticipates close to 90 participants.

Thursday the league held their Championship at where all of their games are played every Tuesday and Thursday night from June to August. The game saw the Mahwah Sharks battle the Mahwah Flirts.

The Sharks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead off the foot of Tim Buikle. The second half was much the same, with the Sharks putting heavy pressure on the Flirts defense and adding two more goals from Tim Certosimo and Chino Chumbitazi. The 3-0 game ended the Flirts season, and crowned the Sharks the 2011 Adult Rec League Champions.
