Storm Update: More Than 10,000 In Bergen County Lose Power

19 inches of snow has fallen in parts of Bergen County.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Traffic and power problems mounted in Bergen County and roads are becoming dangerous for local residents as the snow piles up in North Jersey.

More than 10,000 people are without power, including more than 2,100 people in River Vale, 1,600 in Ridgewood and 1,100 in Teaneck, Washington Township and Paramus. Power could be restored anytime from Wednesday night to 11 a.m. Thursday morning, PSE&G said.

Nineteen inches of snow has fallen in Franklin Lakes, nearly 17 in Mahwah and more than five at Teterboro Airport.

Forecasters say since it is a heavy, wet snow, it could cause widespread power outages just days after Friday's storm knocked out electricity for thousands.

NJ Transit suspended bus service after 4:30 p.m. Cross-honoring is in effect for rail, bus and private carriers and light rail service today.

Here are the latest impacts the storm is having in Bergen County:

  • The ramp from Route 17 North to Ridgewood Avenue is covered with ice.
  • There is a downed pole on the Garden State Parkway northbound on the Route 4 exit ramp. The ramp is blocked, 511nj.org reports.
  • There is a motor vehicle crash on the Garden State Parkway northbound at the Bergen Toll Plaza in Saddle Brook. The right shoulder is blocked.
  • There is a disabled tractor-trailer on Route 23 southbound at Boonton Avenue in Butler. The left and center lanes are closed.
