These Bergen Superintendents And Principals Make The Most In NJ

6 of the top 10 highest paid average salaries in New Jersey are in Bergen County, numbers released by the state show.

Principals and administrators in Bergen County make more than their counterparts in nearly every other part New Jersey, information released by the state shows.

The information is part of the state Department of Education's Taxpayer's Guide to Education Spending, which shows the median salary in every New Jersey school district. (See related: NJ Schools That Pay Principals, Administrators The Most, Least)

The top Bergen County districts and their median principal and administrator salaries in New Jersey are:

1. Hackensack, $168,192
3. Wyckoff, $164,133
5. Glen Rock, $160,705
6. Pascack Valley Regional, $159,585
8. Ridgewood, $157,748
9. Fair Lawn, $157,577

Pompton Lakes was ranked No. 10 at $155,676. Paramus was ranked No. 11 with $155,577. North Highlands Regional was ranked No. 15 at $152,577, followed by Garfield, Teanfly, River Dell Regional, and River Edge, which round out the top 20. Those last four districts range from $151,874 to $150,504, numbers from the state show.

In addition to median salaries, the site also shows each district's total spending, average daily enrollment and students from sending districts, the per-pupil costs and the district's total budget spending for 2018.

And it's not just the big towns or the regional districts that pay the most: Indeed, Lavallette is a great place to get a principal or administrator job, where the median salary is $164,239. But nearby, in Bay Head, the median salary is listed as $1.
