The stands were packed Thursday afternoon after as the highly anticipated Mahwah-Don Bosco lacrosse game was full of ups and downs for the Thunderbirds, played into overtime to secure their 11-10 victory.
Mark Glicini scored a team high 6 goals, including the game winner with 3:18 remaining in overtime, as Mahwah upset the sixth-ranked Don Bosco Prep Ironmen Thursday afternoon. Senior Ryan Manger also added three goals for the twelfth-ranked Thunderbirds who improved to 5-1 on the season.
Junior goalie Michael Spera held the Ironmen in check by recording 14 saves for the home team. The Thunderbirds scored 6 times in the third quarter to take a commanding 9-5 lead, but Don Bosco responded by outscoring Mahwah 6-2 in the fourth quarter.

Don Bosco was lead by sophomore Max Allen and senior Anthony Disanzo who each netted three goals. The Ironmen outshot Mahwah 37-34 during the game, but Spera would not let the Thunderbirds leave without a victory.
Bob Collins scored two and Dan Buonocore had a goal in the victory. Anthony Mordaga also chipped in with three assists for the T-Birds.

Though it was a battle until the end, head coach Ernie Yenco was happy with the win, and what it may mean for the rest of the season.
"You have to remember, this is only the third year of varsity here, and the kids are really getting a feel for what it takes to be the type of kids that could play at the highest level," he said.
After today’s big win Mahwah must now shift their focus on their next opponent, Ramapo High School. The Thunderbirds will face the Ramapo Raiders on Saturday afternoon at 11 a.m. at Mahwah.
