Early Morning Power Outage Caused By Downed Tree

Over 2,500 residents of Mahwah and Suffern lost power

About 2,502 Rockland Electric customers in Mahwah and Suffern lost power early Wednesday morning due to a downed tree,  Mike Donovan, a spokesman for Orange and Rockland Utilities, told Patch Wednesday.

“A tree came down on a Rockland Electric distribution wire,” at about 4:17 a.m. Wednesday, Donovan said. He called the incident an “accident. The tree did not break the wire, but because of the contact to the electrical wire, it did blow the fuse on the nearest pole.”

According to Donovan, Rockland Electric overhead line crews removed the tree and replaced the blown fuse. Power was completely restored to all township residents by 6:22 a.m., he said.
