Only a handful of high school seniors statewide have snagged the prestigious National Merit Scholarships. Find out who won locally.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Two Bergen County teens will get a little extra financial help with each year of college thanks to their hard work in high school.
They've won National Merit Scholarships, a program that awards money to students around the country based on their test scores, grades, recommendations, and more.
The process lasts more than a year, until it's culled to just a few finalists in each area.

Some winners were announced earlier this year as having won scholarships from corporations. Others will win scholarships via their chosen college.
The National Merit Scholarship Foundation announced Monday that two students in Bergen County have won the most recent round of scholarships to be announced.

The scholarships provide up to $2,500 per year for each of four years of college.
Here are the winners during this round:
Michelle M. Tan
Michelle M. Tan of Paramus is a student at Bergen County Academies in Hackensack. She hopes to go into architectural engineering.
She's won a National Merit Tufts University Scholarship. Tufts is located six miles from Boston.
Leechan Hong
Leechan Hong of River Edge attends River Dell Regional High School in Oradell.
Leechan has won a scholarship through Northeastern University. Founded in 1898, Northeastern University is a private research university located in Boston. His probable career path is computer science.
