Firefighters saved a cat from a burning home and extinguished the fire from a Dumont home Saturday night, the fire department said.

Emergency crews were dispatched shortly before 7 p.m. and saw flames shooting out of windows from the house's second floor, a statement on the department's Facebook page said.

More firefighters responded and the bulk of the fire was extinguished within 10 minutes, the statement said. Smaller pockets of fire were extinguished afterward.

Firefighter Zac Blake found the family cat underneath a couch, the statement said. The department posted a picture of a fire captain reuniting the cat with its family.
