Woman Was Driving Drunk When She Struck And Killed Elderly Bergen Man: Prosecutor

FORT LEE, N.J. — A woman was charged with vehicular homicide after she struck and killed an 86-year-old man while driving drunk Sunday, authorities said.
Christine H. Ko, 22, was charged after she struck and killed Ruben Enukashvili while he was crossing Lemoine Avenue at 8:48 p.m. Sunday near Whiteman Street, said Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal.
Ko was driving a 2011 Hyundai Sonata under the influence of alcohol when she struck Enukashvili, who was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, Grewal said.

Investigators from the prosecutor’s office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and the Fort Lee Police Department revealed that Ko was under the influence of alcohol when she struck Enukashvili, Grewal said.
Ko, a liquor store clerk from Ewing, was charged with vehicular homicide and issued motor vehicle summonses for reckless driving, driving under the influence, and operating a motor vehicle with an open or unsealed alcoholic beverage container.

Fort Lee Municipal Court Judge arraigned Ko Monday. She was remanded to the Bergen County Jail Annex in lieu of $150,000 bail with a 10 percent option.
