Your Guide To Summer Fair Fun

What you need to know about the area's best festivals.

Now that summer's in full swing, it's fair season which means lots of fun-filled entertainment and all-you-can-eat junk food. Here at Mahwah Patch we are giving you the lowdown on all of the area's county fairs and events!

State Fair at the Meadowlands Fair Grounds

When and Where:  The New Meadowlands Fairgrounds, next to the New Meadowlands Stadium Stadium Stadium Road, East Rutherford. The fair runs from June 24 to July 10.

Why/Go: This fair is one of the Garden State’s biggest summer attractions as it features hundreds of rides, events, and entertainment including an alligator show, petting zoo, and circus entertainment.

Pricing: Monday through Thursday: $7 for age 13 & up, children 12 and under & Senior Citizens $5; Friday through Sunday: $9 for age 13 & up; children 12 and under & Senior Citizens $6; Parking is $4 Thursday through Sunday; Children under 34" are admitted free daily.

Westwood Summer Festival

Where/When: Downtown Westwood, along Westwood Avenue, Saturday, June 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: The Westwood Chamber of Commerce is presenting the annual summer festival, which turns Westwood Avenue into a pedestrian shopping area by closing the street. Patrons will encounter shopping deals, food, health experts, inflatables for children and more.

Glen Rock’s 4 Day Family Fair

Why go: Enjoy rides, games and food. A pizza-eating contest will be held on Sunday, June 26.

When and Where: Wilde Memorial Park, Maple Avenue, Glen Rock, Thursday, June 23-Sunday, June 26.

Hackensack Car Show

Why go: A must for any car lover who enjoys gazing at vintage autos, this event celebrates over 100 years of cars, with great food and music.

Where and When: Farleigh Dickinson University in Hackensack on June 26; rain date is July 10.

Pricing: Entry and parking is free.

Leonia Annual Sports Booster Carnival

Why go: Enjoy rides, foods, and great fun and fireworks!

Where and When: Thursday, June 30, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Fort Lee Road in Leonia.

Taste of Rutherford Festival

Why go: A must for all food enthusiasts, this festival samples food from some of the town’s best restaurants. Besides the great food, guests will also be treated to musical entertainment as well as a classic car show. Wine sampling will also be available at Williams Plaza.

When and Where: Park Avenue, in Rutherford, Thursday, June 30.

Pricing: Tickets can be purchased at the Rutherford Public Library as well as the Rutherford Downtown Department office. Guests can purchase a $10 ticket for 10 samples of food or $5 for five samples. Admission to the wine tasting tent is $10.

Teaneck Recreation Department’s July 4th Community Celebration

Why go: This event is celebrating its 20th anniversary, with face painters, Jurassic Survivor Inflatable entertainment, as well as good food.

Where and When: Come to Votee Park Band Shell Area on Monday, July 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Wyckoff-Franklin Lakes Lions Club Carnival

When/Where: July 13 to 17, 6 to 10 p.m. , Franklin Lake Road, Franklin Lakes, NJ 07417 (Parking on the field)

Why Go: It's not every day you get carnival rides and games for the family so close to the Market Basket and all the shops in Urban Farms! 

Pricing: Entrance is free, rides, games and food extra.

Tenafly Street Fair

Why go: Come enjoy entertainment, merchandise and food vendors as well as a "crafts corner" with homemade crafts

When and Where: This annual event will be held on Saturday, July 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Washington Street and Railroad Avenue in Tenafly.

Pricing: Admission is free.

New York Renaissance Faire

Why go: Enjoy 16th Century-themed games, arts, crafts, music, food and dance.

Where and When: August 6 through September 25. Set in Sterling Forest in Tuxedo Park, N.Y., daily hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Pricing: Tickets cost $22 for adults and $11 for children.

Bergen County 4-H Master Gardener’s Fair

Why go: This event includes live performances, displays, as well as educational activities for children including contests and games. Home-owning topics will be discussed as well, including lawn care, soil conservation, recycling, and composting.

When and Where: Van Saun Park in Paramus, on August 14 (10 a.m.–6 p.m.) and August 15 (10 a.m.-4 p.m.).

Pricing: Admission and parking are both free

Bergen County Historical Society Event

Who: The Bergen County Historical Society is holding

Why go: Celebrate the ancient Algonquian "Winu Gischuch" or Ripe Corn Moon festival which honors Native American heritage. Historian and author Kevin Wright will speak on his book "1609: A Country That Was Never Lost." Guests are also allowed to visit the gift shop as well as The Steuben House’s rare artifacts collection. Refreshments will be served in the Campbell-Christie house.

When and Where: This one-of-a-kind festival will be held at Historic New Bridge Landing from 4 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 27.

Pricing: Suggested donations are $15 for guests, $12 for members.

2011 Saint Joseph Feast

Why go: Enjoy traditional Italian fare such as sausage and peppers, zeppoles, gelato, pizza, and macaroni and meatballs. This event also features music, including an accordion player and DJ Express entertainment. Rides and games of chance will also be featured.

When and Where: This feast will be held on Labor Day Weekend (September 2, 3, 4, and 5) at 40 Spring Street, on the church grounds, and in the rear of K-mart in Lodi.  Friday hours are 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday hours are from 2 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Big Swap Bonanza

Why go: JC Promotions Company is holding Big Swap Bonanza, a five-town giant garage and tag sale. This event is a fundraiser benefiting local organizations.

When and Where: Saturday, October 29, and Sunday, October 30, at the New Jersey Transit station parking lot at 540 New York Avenue. Event hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
