Power for 2,300 Restored in Manalapan

The outage was caused by a car that hit a utility pole in Englishtown at 10 a.m., splitting it in two and causing power lines to spark.

Manalapan, NJ - As of noon Tuesday, electricity has since been restored for the more than 2,300 people in Manalapan and Englishtown who lost power this morning after a car slammed into a utility pole, splitting it in two.

The power outage occurred at about 10 a.m. Tuesday and 2,374 people in Manalapan Township were affected, according to Jersey Central Power & Light. The outage was caused by a car that accidentally drove into a utility pole in Englishtown at 10 a.m., said Ron Morano, a spokesman for JCP&L.

Power was restored for 1,700 customer at 10:48 a.m. and then restored for the remaining 500 customers at 11:15 a.m., he said.

The car hit the utility pole on Lasatta Avenue, splitting the pole in two and causing the power lines to spark (arcing). The pole must be replaced, according to Englishtown police.

Lasatta Avenue between Mt. Vernon and Tracy Station Road in Englishtown is currently closed while repairs are made.
