The 5K Tri-State Rugged Maniac mud run on Saturday, July 9, drew thousands to . The rugged participants were men and women "maniacs" ranging from their teens to their sixties. Some were serious athletes who took the competition seriously, others ran in groups of friends wearing silly outfits.
The mud run was an obstacle course designed with the assistance of Navy SEALs to simulate the toughest military training. In addition to running five kilometers in the baking sun, participants had to clear many muddy hurdles including scaling and jumping from climbing walls, army crawling under barbed wire, wading through a neck-high pit of filthy water, and leaping between wooden poles suspended over a mud pit.
