5 Christmas Light Thefts in Manalapan So Far

Laser lights coveted by thieves; protect your decorations with these tips from police.

Manalapan, NJ - As anyone who’s ever done it knows, installing beautiful Christmas lights is no easy task.

And now someone in Manalapan Township is stealing lights and decorations that homeowners worked hard to put up. Five different homes have seen their holiday light displays stolen so far this December, township police confirmed to Patch:

Sunday, Dec. 13: A woman on Tuppence Road said two of her inflatable Christmas decorations were stolen from her front yard sometime Saturday night. The blow-up decorations are valued at $160.

Saturday, Dec. 12: A Manalapan man said someone stole his Bulb Head-brand, Laser Lawn Light from his front yard sometime overnight on Friday night. His street was not given by police.

Saturday, Dec. 12: Later that same afternoon, another Manalapan man said someone stole two of his Laser Lawn Lights from his front yard. He also thinks the theft occurred sometime Friday night.

Monday, Dec. 7: A woman on Kilmer Drive reported that her “Star Shower” laser light projection was missing. The theft occurred sometime over the weekend, she said.

Saturday, Dec. 5: Three LED projection lights were taken from a house on Winged Foot Drive. The owner said he noticed the lights, valued at $120 total, were gone at about 7:30 p.m. that night.

This comes at the same time an inflatable Hanukkah bear was stabbed in Lakewood, and three teens were arrested for stealing Christmas decorations from homes on Timber Drive in Ocean Township.

Police give these tips to keep your decorations safe:

Use locking cords on decorations that plug into electrical outlets.

Connect zip ties to power cables to further fasten them to nearby fences, trees and other barriers.

Position the most expensive decorations close to your home, near windows or up on your roof.

Use motion-controlled lighting and security cameras.
