MANALAPAN, NJ — Several instances of fraud and theft were reported in the township last week, including a fraud via Bitcoin, police said.
In a weekly report released by Deputy Chief Leonard Maltese, the following incidents were cited:
On Aug. 7, a Newark resident, 73, told police of being defrauded in the amount of $30,000 via Bitcoin by unknown persons. Patrolman Edward Burns handled the report.
On Aug. 4, a Manalapan resident, 24, told police an unknown person removed $4,860 cash from a Tarrytown Road residence. Patrolman Justin Barbuto handled the report.
On Aug. 4, a Manalapan resident, 67, told Manalapan police that an unknown person attempted to cash checks in the amount of $4,400 at banks located in Freehold Township and Freehold Borough. Patrolman Abdoulaye Diagne took the report.
On Aug. 7, a 53-year-old Manalapan resident reported an unknown person fraudulently used their credit card to complete a $1,727.72 transaction. Patrolman Joseph DeFilippis handled the report.
On Aug. 7, an employee of the Wawa convenience store at 345 Union Hill Road in Manalapan reported that an unknown person used three counterfeit $100 bills while making purchases. Patrolman James Joiner handled the report.
On Aug. 7, a Manalapan resident, 53, reported that an unknown person unlawfully accessed their social media account and attempted to defraud others. Patrolman Michael DeCristofaro handled the report.
On Aug. 5, a Manalapan resident, 43, told Manalapan police that a license plate that was returned to a dealership is now being fraudulently used on other unknown vehicles. Patrolman Thomas Butz took the report.
