MANALAPAN, NJ — Manalapan Police reported incidents of vehicle burglary, fraud, assault and more from April 8 through April 14.
April 8
A 56-year-old Manalapan resident reported that they were a victim of a fraudulent scheme that occurred in January 2026 and continued through April 2026.
The victim reported that they were advised of an outstanding arrest warrant, and that to avoid arrest, they would have to pay a sum agreed upon to be $900,000.
The victim wire-transferred a total of $900,100 to the suspect, which is the reported loss. The initial report is pending further investigation.
April 9
An 82-year-old Manalapan resident reported that they were deceived over the phone and advised that their bank account had been tampered with. After being told by the suspect that, in order to resolve the issue with the victim’s account, they needed to transfer $17,500 to them, the victim transferred $17,500 to the suspect and is at a loss for that amount.
At 9:23 p.m., Ptlm. Matthew Schwartz initiated a motor vehicle stop on Route 9 north for motor vehicle violations. An investigation revealed that the driver was operating their vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested and brought to Manalapan Township Police Headquarters, where they were processed and released pending court.
April 10
A business in Manalapan reported a theft of approximately $300 worth of Red Bull that occurred on April 7, 2026, at approximately 7:15 p.m. by three unknown people.
A 52-year-old Manalapan resident reported that approximately $20,000 worth of jewelry was missing from their home.
April 11
A 43-year-old Manalapan resident reported that someone broke into their vehicle by smashing the front passenger side glass and removed several items.
A 25-year-old Manalapan resident reported that someone broke into their vehicle sometime overnight and removed several items.
A 52-year-old Manalapan resident reported they were a victim of vandalism to their vehicle. Someone smashed the windshield and driver's side windows.
A 48-year-old Manalapan resident reported that someone broke into their unlocked vehicle during the overnight hours and unlawfully removed several items.
A 23-year-old Manalapan resident reported that someone broke into their unlocked vehicle during the overnight hours. The victim reported that nothing appeared to be missing from within the vehicle.
At 2:07 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to a home in Manalapan for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, the home was subsequently found to be fully engulfed. There were no reported injuries. The incident is pending further investigation.
April 12
A 22-year-old Manalapan resident reported that they were fraudulently scammed into sending approximately $1,696 through Cash App and Chime payment applications while trying to purchase an item online.
April 13
A 46-year-old Manalapan resident reported that someone tried to open a bank account in their name. The attempt was not successful.
A 60-year-old Manalapan resident reported that they have been receiving harassing phone calls from someone they know.
April 14
At 9:46 a.m., patrols responded to a Manalapan business and took a report for an assault. Investigation revealed that during a verbal dispute, a 72-year-old Monroe resident and a 46-year-old Matawan resident assaulted each other. Neither party wished to pursue complaints.
A 40-year-old Marlboro resident reported their 1984 Iveco was stolen from their Manalapan business sometime between December 2025 and April 24, 2026. The initial report is pending further investigation.
A 78-year-old Manalapan resident reported they were a victim of fraud. The victim reported that they received an email advising of a purchase they had made, which the victim did not make. The victim contacted a phone number within the email and was defrauded into sending $15,000 electronically to the suspect in order to cancel the initial purchase. The initial report is pending further investigation.
