April is “National Alcohol Awareness Month.” The goal of this week is to bring to light the effects alcohol can have on your health and to encourage everyone to make smart decisions when it comes to alcohol intake. The NCADD, National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence Inc, also uses this time to address the dangers of underage drinking. Underage drinking is one of the reasons this week is recognized in April, due to the fact that prom, homecoming and graduation season is quickly approaching.
Keep track of how much you drink and ask yourself “Is it one too many?” Excessive alcohol leads to about 88,000 deaths per year. 1 in 10 deaths of persons between the ages of 20-64 died as a result of excessive drinking.
