The Art of Living Your Dream

I was the very first major art student in 6th grade at P.S.177. The graduation chorus was thrown off key by my incredibly pitchy singing voice. Mr. Sugarman , the assistant principal suggested I draw during the scheduled rehearsals. I remember feeling hurt and embarrassed at the time yet this experience motivated my love for creating art and for that I am thankful. Years passed (Oh so many years!) and I worked, raised a family. took care of aging parents and had little or no time for anything else. Because I was constantly in active mode where there was little time for myself, retirement became difficult. Unless your time is consumed by your community or love of tennis or golf, canasta , bridge or Broadway, the day seems never ending. Part time employment as an adjunct professor and Zumba was not enough. It was then I turned to canvas and paint, realizing I was no Vincent yet loving every minute I spent in my basement celebrating the beautiful colors I created on my palette. Many of my friends honored me by framing my work and I love seeing those pictures each time I visit. I had posted many of them on a website but never thought I was talented enough to actually sell one. Miraculously, one day I received an email from Deidre at shopvida.com. She asked if I would consider using my pictures in fabric design. Enthusiastically, I actually created 50 assorted pieces the next day. I now have over 100 scarves,pillows, totes, wraps,tees and blouses on the website. I do not receive huge commission on my work but I do have the satisfaction of knowing I am involved in the process of creating beautiful patterns and exhilarating color palettes. There are hundreds of artists on shopvida.com including Cher herself. Many of them are retired professionals who have redefined themselves in fabric design. I want to share the site with you in the hopes that you will search out my work and that of my colleagues. The quality of the clothes is excellent and the company offers email discounts and specials continuously once an account is established .
