BattleFrog Bringing Navy SEALs-Inspired Obstacle Course Race Series to New Jersey

Raceway Park in Englishtown Site of Obstacle Course Race That Simulates SEAL Training, Raises Funds for Nonprofits Helping SEAL Veterans

Leaders of BattleFrog, the new obstacle course race (OCR) series founded and designed by Navy SEALs, recently announced that they are bringing the SEALs-inspired race series to Englishtown, New Jersey the first weekend in August. Slated for Saturday, August 2nd, the BattleFrog event will provide challenges for both veteran OCR racers and newcomers alike featuring three unique courses, a series of SEAL-themed demonstrations and activities, and a festival atmosphere that promises to be fun for the entire family.

One of the first stops on the race series tour, the BattleFrog obstacle course race will take place on Saturday, August 2, 2014, at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, 230 Pension Rd., Englishtown, NJ 07726. The park will be transformed into a tough and demanding obstacle course designed to test the strength, skill, and determination of any athlete. As with all BattleFrog races, participants can choose between 15K, 5K and BattleFrog Mile courses, each of which is inspired by BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL) Training, the six-month long qualification course that all SEALs must undergo.

“BattleFrog was created as a tribute to our nation’s military and to help people learn about the work Navy SEALs do,” says Don Mann, BattleFrog chief executive officer and retired U.S. Navy SEAL member of Team SIX. “Our events are unique because actual Navy SEALs are guiding and mentoring the racers who are learning how to push themselves beyond their personal physical limits.”

Activities begin at 8 a.m. and will feature heats for all participants and age levels, as well as an entire family-friendly experience that includes interacting with SEALs, enjoying multiple attractions within the festival compound, and watching a live SEAL demonstration involving a military helicopter and K-9 security teams.

The NY-NJ-CT event is expected to draw racers from throughout the tri-state region. Canadian Olympians Marco Bedard and Claude Godbout of Vancouver, Canada will be competing in the BattleFrog 15K elite event as will fellow Canadian Ben Morin Boucher, currently a top-ranked obstacle course race (OCR) athlete in Canada. Hobie Call, America’s top OCR racer with 42 titles to his credit, will be on hand to inspire the BattleFrog racers.

SEAL veterans and other obstacle racing experts have been designing, constructing and testing the most realistic, challenging and action-packed obstacles to simulate the real training and rigor a SEAL experiences.

The activity-packed event, sponsored in part by the Air Force Reserve and Kill Cliff, will feature a course for the active competitive racer, including never before seen obstacles such as The Hooyah, a 12’ high slant wall leading to a platform from where racers descend down darkened tubes into a mud pit and The Tsunami, a signature 16’ high triple-lane wave wall requiring racers to run and climb up one side, often requiring help from others, and then climb or slide down the other side.

Following the national anthem and a salute to our nation’s flag, each BattleFrog race begins with a military helicopter fly-over along with the sound of a cannon, and actual Navy SEALs participating in the race.

BattleFrog founders have announced that eight percent of the profits generated from the series will be shared evenly with the Navy SEAL Foundation and the Navy SEAL Museum & Memorial. This direct support honors the fallen, promotes the SEAL legacy and supports the families of those who served.
