Makeup Trends for Spring 2012

While trends in fashion and clothing are fun and welcome the new season they are not for everyone. Just because something is in style doesn't mean it's right for you.

The fashions runways usually set the trends for the cosmetic industry and, while the looks may make a wonderful statement on the runway, some certainly are better off left there. Bright orange, fuschia or blue lips really do not look good on anyone, no matter what the sales girl tells you. While I do believe in updating your makeup look each spring and fall so you look current and not dated, what I do not believe in is following each and every trend that comes down the pike.

The look this spring is brighter, bolder lips and I always feel that women look better in color, but it has to be the right color. You can wear bright lipsticks and adjust their impact with a couple of tricks - so you acheive the color impact without over doing it.  When I work with a client I certainly take the current trends into account, after all the companies I purchase my products from introduce most of them, however I custom fit it for her and her lifestyle. If we love a lipstick, but feel it is too bright or strong for her coloring I show her how to adjust it to be exactly the intensity she desires - sheer for day and more coverage for night. Just because you see it in a magazine or read about it doesn't mean you should embrace it. Who are "they" anyway?

When I go into a store to buy a dress I look at the way the sales girl has put herself together. If I like what I see then her advice means something, if not I trust myself or wait for an honest girlfriend to shop with me. When you purchase cosmetics I suggest you do the same thing, go to someone whose makeup you admire and think does a good job.  Buying makeup from someone who doesn't wear it or someone who over does it makes little sense. If they can't get it right on themselves how on earth will they get it right for you?

Bright, feminine and pretty are all adjectives to describe this seasons cosmetic pallete. Nude lips are also trending on the other end of the spectrum when worn with some of the brighter pastel eyeshadows - but a Nude lip NEVER means beige - EVER.  Nude lip is referring to the color of your lip without anything on it - I assure you that whatever your coloring is, it is not beige.  When women wear beige lips it makes them look unhealthy.

If you are unsure how to make it work for you, come in and let me show you how pretty this seasons colors can be on you!
